All Souls Procession, Tucson

Last night was the All Souls Procession here in Tucson, one of the highlights of the year. We saw some amazing costumes, and the energy was great. The parade started at Epic Cafe on 4th Ave, and ended at the Mercado San Augustin. These images were shot at the intersection of 4th Ave and Congress St.

Elegant and Serene

This is a new photography project that I'm working on. I love to overlap my sensibilities and mediums, sometimes I use the same title for an assemblage jar and a painting, though they may be two very separate works. There is a connection of sensibilities in my mind, a thread of ideas that branches from painting to photography to assemblage work.

I work with very old porcelain dolls from Germany in my assemblage work, and they are so pretty I just had to photograph them. These images are the beginning of a new series I think I'm going to fall in love with....When I am finished photographing them, they will move to a new life as an assemblage project.

One of the things I love about these figurines is the Greek statue quality, so elegant and serene.

These are new pieces that I just finished and brought to Popcycle, a fantastic store here in Tucson that carries my work. Not only does Popcycle carry amazing art from recycled, reclaimed and vintage materials, they also are active in various causes here in our community. The gals working there are just plain fabulous! These works are all fairly small, 4x5 inches or less. They are framed with vintage frames that I've collected over the past year (I have quite a collection!)I'm always on the hunt and it sure gives me a good excuse to go thrifting!  I love these old frames...I love to imagine what other images they've held in the past,and whose mantels they have graced. Now I can give them a new life as holders for my Vintage Vixens! These works are inspired by French New Wave, American TV shows from the 1960's like Bewitched, The Avengers and James Bond movies.
I use pen and ink, watercolor and cuttings from vintage French Dictionaries ranging from 1911-1950.

Sunset Basketball

My son loves basketball...it's sort of a family trait. My father was on his team in high school in Benham, Kentucky in the 1950's, and he was a star! Now my nephew is an amazing basketball player on his high school team here in Tucson. My son loves basketball as well, and plays on the YMCA team for his school.
We went to our local park, Madera, yesterday evening so he could practice shooting hoops. He loves it!

The Cheerful Hat

I love what my son Chet created for a school project recently on creating a hat. He chose all of the materials, and made this fun hat! He used a recycled lamp shade, kraft paper, pom poms, feathers and foam.
I love the creativity and spirit of his wonderful hat!

He named it The Cheerful Hat. I think I'll keep it around for those grumpy days!
